The Great Characters Edition Andy Warhol is paying tribute to one of the major proponents of the Pop Art Movement. Born in Pittsburgh (Pensilvania) in 1928, pioneer of Pop Art changed the perspective of art, turning the ordinary into extraordinary. This plastic and illustrator artist is characterized by using bright colors in order to transform daily objects into artworks creating “commercial art”.

Andy Warhol achieved something that only a few artists have achieved: became a legend in life, besides being a contemporary cultural icon that continues inspiring us today.

Special Edition

He began his pop art movement in the early sixties with some images of “Campbell’s Soup Cans”. This iconic image has been the inspiration for this Limited Edition of Montblanc. This iconic image appears in a grouping of 4 cans engraved into the stainless steel cap. At the top of the piece is inscribed the phrase: “Art is what you can get away with”.

With his striking works, Andy Warhol broke down the barriers between “high art” and “commercial art” and made a sensation turning the ordinary into the extraordinary. The complementary contrast between the cobalt blue precious resin of the barrel and the narrow orange rings on the cone and forepart reflect the color variations in Warhol’s Colored Campbell’s Soup can series from 1965, which are also carefully worked into the stainless steel cap. In reference to his Dollar Signs series, a dollar sign is finely engraved on the handcrafted, rhodium-coated gold nib of the fountain pen, while the squeegee he used in silkscreen printing is captured in the design of the clip. The cap ring of the edition is adorned with an engraving of Warhol’s signature.

Limited Edition 1928

The inspiration of this collection comes from the work “Flowers, 1964”. The cap is drawed with the flowers of Warhol’s painting and has another quotation on the cap, “You need to let the little things that would ordinarily bore you suddenly thrill you”, and is accompanied by an abridged version of his 1975 book, “The Philosophy of Andy Warhol”. As a reference to the idea of commercialism made by Warhol’s art, the cone is embellished with one of Warhol’s chosen symbols, the barcode. The dollar symbol of 1981 is handcrafted in the nib of the pen. The pen is complete with a clip shaped like a squeegee and the brand’s iconic star logo on the cap top.

This edition is limited to 1928 fountain pens and 1928 rollerballs in honor of the year of Andy Warhol’s birth.
