The highly anticipated S.T. Dupont “Diamond Guilloche” Collection for 2020 is a luxurious series of fine writing instruments created exclusively for the US market. This new collection combines old world Dupont glamour with an updated modern design.
S.T. Dupont brings together one of their oldest and most treasured crafting techniques “guilloche under lacquer” to the newly updated large size ‘Line D’.
The collection is launched on the newly updated Line D Large pen: New top with a beautiful loop effect, highlighting the ‘D’ in New curved and articulated clip perfectly integrated to the top. The pen cap closes with S.T. Dupont’s iconic ‘cling’ and features a fluted grip section for a superb writing experience.
Diamond Guilloche
Guilloche is an intricate decorative technique created by engraving a surface with great precision and then adding a transparent layer of resin, enamel, or in the case of S.T. Dupont’s fine writing instruments, a natural lacquer over the engraved surface. The solid brass body and cap is lacquered multiple times and hand polished to create a smooth, unique texture on the surface that differs from each pen as no two writing instruments are identical.
The “Diamond Guilloche” collection features the namesake technique that is French for “engine turning.” The diamond design is created by an engine turning process that engraves very precise, intricate, geometric patterns into an underlying material. For this latest launch, S.T. Dupont selected a finely detailed diamond pattern which is then overlaid with sumptuously colored Urushi lacquer, the result is simply spectacular.
S.T. Dupont’s artisans add layers of natural lacquer to the surface of the diamond patterned guilloche in a months long process involving many applications and polishing to impart depth and mystery to each finish. The engraving causes the reflection of light through the overlay of natural Urushi lacquer creating a stunning display of light and color.
The “Diamond Guilloche” is offered in 3 vibrant colours: Ruby accented in gold vermeil, Sapphire accented in palladium trim and Aquamarine accented in palladium trim, the pens combine the skills of the S.T. Dupont master goldsmith with the expertise of their master lacquerer.
Each fountain pen receives over 150 handcrafted operations and controls to ensure writing perfection. The fountain pen features S.T. Dupont’s famous ‘click’ to echo their famous lighter ‘cling’. The 14K solid gold nib is engraved with the blazon, in EF, F, M, and B nib widths. The pen uses cartridges or fills from a bottle of ink using the converter.
With the natural lacquer exclusive patina effect, each piece is one of a kind. While the procedure remains the same, the result is always different. Depending on the color contrasts obtained, the handmade production process gives the product its very own depth and soul.
