In the new Fire Head Collection, S.T. Dupont takes its iconic tribute to the Art of Fire a step further: combining the ancient skill of lacquering with the expertise of master goldsmiths.
S.T. Dupont brings together one of their oldest and most treasured crafting techniques “guilloche under lacquer” to the newly updated large size “Line D”.
The collection is recently remodeled with a new bold blazon on the articulated clip, an enhanced Dupont ‘D’ in the crown of the cap and a perfectly balanced shape for exceptional writing. The pen cap closes with S.T. Dupont’s iconic ‘cling’ and features a fluted grip section for a superb writing experience.
The iconic “Fire-head” guilloche collection pays tribute to the much celebrated “Louvre” museum in Paris, France, famed for its glass “pyramid” entrance, which serves as the design inspiration.
The Art of Guilloche Under Lacquer
Guilloche is an intricate decorative technique created by engraving a surface with great precision and then adding a transparent layer of resin, enamel, or in the case of S.T. Dupont’s fine writing instruments, a natural lacquer over the engraved surface. S.T. Dupont engineers engrave a series of “pyramids” throughout the barrel and cap of each pen using an “engine turning” process that engraves very precise and intricate geometric patterns into an underlying material.
With 6 triangular facets, the Fire Head guilloché pattern is velvet on the hand, contrasting superbly with its geometrical precision. It takes twice as long for S.T. Dupont’s artisans to add lacquer work to the patterned surface, and the goldsmithing alone, is a months-long process involving many applications and polishing to impart depth and mystery to each coat.
Each item in this timeless collection is hand-polished and plated with precious gold or palladium finishes, and patterned with a homage to 1952’s era-defining Diamond Head design.
The “Fire-head” Guilloche is offered in 3 vibrant colored lacquers: Amethyst accented in palladium trim, Emerald accented in gold vermeil trim and Amber accented in gold vermeil trim.
The engraved guilloche reflects light through the overlay of natural lacquer, creating a spectacular three dimensional display of color.
The fountain pens’ new top with a beautiful loop effect highlighting the ‘D’ in metal New curved and articulated clip perfectly integrated to the top. The 14K solid gold nib is engraved with the blazon, in EF, F, M, and B nib widths.
