A hundred years ago, S.T. Dupont had created travel suitcases for Parisian upper-class people and even royal nobles. During World War II, the brand’s first lighter was launched, and the production focus was shifted from the “art of travel” leather goods to the “art of flame” lighter.
Following in the footsteps of Ernest Hemingway across East Africa, ST Dupont pays tribute to the stunning beauty of the famous “Big Five” mammals, in the tradition of African safaris, with this exceptional and unique humidor and its 5 iconic Dupont Ligne 2 Lighters.
The phrase “Big Five game” was coined by white hunters in British East Africa in the 1800s, although big game hunting was already popular in other parts of the “Dark Continent”, notably in South Africa.
The five models made with hand-engraving technique, each required more than 50 hours of work by master craftsmen. The five Kings of the Savannah, the symbols of the continent – Lion (Simba/016492), Elephant (Tembo/016490), Rhinoceros (Kifaru/016493), Leopard (Chui/016491) and Buffalo (Mbogo/016495) – have been artistically interpreted by two French masters, the painter Cécile Riollet and the engraver Frédéric Krill.
Crafted entirely from a single block of metal from the body to the reservoir, the Ligne 2 lighters are very resistant. The lighters with palladium finishes on a brass case are hand-engraved on stainless steel. The cigar box made of pure mahogany can store 75 cigars. The surface of the box is wrapped with African elephant skin.
