For 2012 Montblanc created 3 new collectors’ items based on the Venetian Carnival, Greek mythology and the world of fables, which comprise this year’s Annual Edition collection.
The hand-painted images symbolise these three selected themes;
Zeus is the Olympian god of the sky and the thunder, the king of all other gods and men, and consequently, the chief figure in Greek mythology. The son of Cronus and Rhea is probably most famous for his infidelity to his sister and wife, the goddess Hera. Athena, Apollo and Artemis, Hermes, Dionysus, Heracles, Helen of Troy, and the Muses are all children of his numerous erotic affairs. Hephaestus, Hebe, and Ares are his legitimate children. Isabella – the character in “Commedia dell’arte”, in the class of “innamorata” (female lover). The Isabella character is certainly the most known among all female lovers and is named in honor of the actress and writer Isabella Andreini of the commedia troupe, who popularized the role. The word “peacock” actually refers to the male of the species, while “peahen” is what the females are called. In China, the bird was a symbol of the Ming Dynasty, representing dignified beauty, rank and power. With its colorful feathers and “hundred eyes” on its tail the peacock promote fame and good luck in feng shui and symbolises holiness, protection, awareness and watchfulness. It is also known to be able to deter evil.
As masterly illustrations, these legendary motifs, adorn the caps of porcelain from Meissen, whose world-famous origin is marked by the crossed blue swords. The annual Edition 2012, which like its predecessors will only be available for one year, is completed by the gold-plated body together with fine guilloche and a nib of 18-carat gold.
