In many cultures, number 8 is widely regarded as a symbol of good fortune and prosperity: In Buddhism, the 8-fold noble path leads to complete truth; in Islam, 8 paradises await the citizens of Earth and 8 angels bear the throne of god; in Christianity, the 8 sons of Abraham and the 8 blessed of the Sermon on the Mount; In China, 8 is pronounced like “fa”, which means prosperity – imminent wealth.
Whether as a symbol of good fortune in modern China or as the basis of Chinese philosophy (in “Feng Shui” – the number eight has a broad significance), for millions of people throughout Asia, the number eight is far more than just a number. Number 8 has an almost mythic significance in everyday life as well as in all areas of society.
For example: in the world of business, important appointments and agreements are, on principle, set for 8AM. Both business and private individuals alike have a strong desire for telephone numbers and car plates with as many eights as possible. They promise a prosperous future, happiness and social success. Even the summer Olympics in Beijing fell under the sway of this lucky number: they were opened on the evening of August 8th 2008, at precisely 8 minutes past 9 o’clock, in order to launch the games under a good sign.
The Skeleton Fortune Number Limited Edition 88 is carrying the 8, shaping the overlay, each on cap and body eight times. Transparent barrel and cap feature the 18K rose gold lattice with an elaborate interlocking 8 motif. The top of the cap and the cone are each encircled by eight rings. The clip is decorated with diamond-studded number 8 (18 diamonds, approx. 0.036ct).
The 18K rose gold cap ring is adorned with the engraved edition name “Fortune Number” and the edition number “88”. Medium 18K rose gold nib is engraved with “Yin and Yang” symbol, which is based on the eight trigrams of the I Ching (Yin-dark and yang-light ). The design is completed by a mother-of-pearl cap-top star.
