Friedensreich Hundertwasser or Friedrich Stowasser, an Austrian artist (1928-2000), was a non-traditional painter, architect, and ecologist. With his work, he caused controversy around the world. Some of them remained incomplete until his death. The success of Hunderwasser’s work ranged from complete failure to thunderous applause. He was not only the main eccentric artist in Vienna, but also one of the most famous personalities in Austria. Hundertwasser is known for his abstract works, which have always been distinguished by a variety of colours. He gained experience on his extensive travels to countries such as Italy, France, Morocco and Japan.
Friedensreich Hundertwasser used bright ornaments, swooping contours and spirals in his works. In fact, Hundertwasser hated straight lines and right angles, he called them “Tools of the Devil.” The spirals were something like Hundertwasser’s signature, he saw them as symbols that represent life, infinity and freedom. In 1958, Hundertwasser removed the straight line from all of his architectural drawings. He replaced them with spirals and formed organic buildings. He made dancing windows, decorative facades and multi-coloured towers with onion domes. He brought his fantastic buildings to life.
Montblanc Artisan Edition
Montblanc honors Hundertwasser with this unique Limited Edition. Inspired by Hundertwasser, this limited edition fountain pen takes on a subtle twisted design with colorful gemstones on the cap, which resemble Hundertwasser’s colorful ornamental work. This creation is crafted from solid 750 yellow gold and has a filigree-engraved 18K gold nib, featuring a typical Hundertwasser house, with extravagant towers and fluid facades.
Hundertwasser’s famous spiral motif can be found in the barrel engravings and in the form of the clip. The irregularly shaped barrel is striped with twisting lines of blue lacquer and embodies Hundertwasser’s dictum: “Just carrying a ruler with you in your pocket should be forbidden, at least on a moral basis.” The design is completed with a mother-of-pearl Montblanc star.
