In honour of the man born to be a leader of international stature, Montblanc created the Great Characters Special Edition John F. Kennedy. Commemorating one of the most revered figures of modern history, the Great Characters Limited Edition makes symbolic references to the life of J.F. Kennedy in subtle design details.
With every Great Characters Edition, debuted in 2009, Montblanc commemorates individuals who have broken new ground in the fields of culture, politics, science or the arts, and the impact of the legacy they have left behind.
John F. Kennedy, one of the best known presidents in American history, inspired the world with his dynamism, optimism and ambition.
He was a brilliant speaker, a cool strategist and a political rejuvenator who was revered like a pop star. Born near Boston on 29 May, 1917 and shaped by his father‘s saying, “We want only winners in this family”, John F. Kennedy carved out an unparalleled political career following his studies at Harvard and his time as an officer in the U.S. Navy. Though allowed only a short time as president, John F. Kennedy was a mover of world history and still stands as not only one of the most influential and popular American presidents, but also as a symbolic figure for a political philosophy embracing progress and new beginnings.
“I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth,” said Kennedy in what has become known as his “Man on the Moon Speech,” Joint Session of Congress, May 25, 1961.
Limited Edition 1917
One of J.F. Kennedy’s favourite pastimes was sailing off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts – a sport with a class and style all of its own. The John F. Kennedy Limited Edition 1917, available as a fountain pen, ballpoint pen and rollerball, is inspired by the accoutrements of sailing, with the pattern beneath the lacquer surface recalling boating rope and the 750 gold nib engraved with the lifesaver from Kennedy’s sailboat the “Victura”.
Kennedy’s national service is remembered in the star of the U.S. Navy on the cone, as well as the colours of the American flag: red, white and blue. In reference to the presidential campaign Kennedy won in 1960, the motto “A time for greatness” is engraved on the cap ring and a moon quartz on the cap crown symbolizes Kennedy’s vision of a moon landing.
Limited to 1,917 pieces in memory of the year John F. Kennedy was born, the Edition honours a man remembered as a world leader in times of international tension.
The Limited Edition John F. Kennedy is completed by the two pairs of cufflinks.
The oval cuff links pay tribute to an exceptional, charismatic figure. The inlaid blue resin, fashioned with an optical effect evoking a textile ribbon, speaks to exquisite personal taste and classic elegance.
The round cuff links, sheathed in gleaming blue lacquer offer infinite possibilities to highlight the unique personality of their owner.
Limited Edition 83
The limitation number refers to the house where Kennedy grew up (83 Beals Street, Brookline). Kennedy’s three brothers represented by triple cap rings.
The JFK Limited Edition 83 launched in 2015. The design of the skeletonized barrel and cap were inspired by the windows of the Apollo II space capsule and two diamonds on barrel represent Kennedy’s children. Dates of his presidency also engraved on the barrel. Cap window is decorated with stars and stripes in remembrance of his time in the White House. Cone is adorned with a facsimile of the presidential seal. The 750 solid gold cap ring is symbolized with “A time for greatness” from 1960 presidential campaign and the clip is engraved with initials “JFK”.
