Shanghai Limited Edition Fountain Pen / 1088
Néo-Classique President Pen / 18K gold nib
- A mix of very sophisticated placed lacquer “rain” on the cap and an added filigree metallic part “waves” on the bottom of the products. A subtle pale gold effect ornaments the black lacquer. Eight citrine stones are set on the clip of the pen; 8 being a lucky number in Chinese culture. The Citrine stone is a fine gem from the Quartz family that has a warm yellow color and is believed to have healing properties.
- The top of the pen is signed with a pale gold D circled with black lacquer, and the bottom of the pen is engraved with the Shanghai logo.
In the 1920’s, Shanghai, which was also known as “the Pearl of the Orient”, was the scene of tremendous cultural blossoming which contributed to its mythical aura. At that time, Shanghai, which was one of the few ports in China that were open to the outside world, had become a flourishing financial and artistic center. Europeans, Russians, Japanese and Americans mixed with the Chinese in what was a cosmopolitan, vibrant society. This fascinating blend of cultures created a city whose streets and buildings combined aspects of neogothic, Art Deco, Victorian and neoclassical style in an atmosphere that was unique in the world.
The Limited Edition Shanghai, Dupont pays homage to the elegance and charm of Shanghai and the work of the European designers of the 1930s. The collection demonstrates the magnificent skills of S.T. Dupont’s master lacquerers and goldsmiths. Gold dust intensifies the brilliance of the pale gold and deep black lacquer.
The oversize President fountain pen, rollerball and Line 2 lighter feature motifs of traditional waves and stylized rain. As the Chinese consider the number 8 – a sign of good luck, eight citrine gemstones have been set by hand into each item, which are limited to 1088 pieces. A Chinese seal of good fortune hallmarks each item and is engraved on the stellar S.T. Dupont 18K gold fountain pen nib. For the first time, Dupont presents a Trio set including fountain pen, lacquered pen stand and matching bottle of Dupont ink.
For the first time, a black lacquered wooden box magnifies all the products of this limited edition. It is decorated with a frieze on the 4 sides of the box and signed with the Shanghai limited edition and the S.T. Dupont logo in pale gold. A metallic pale gold plate is engraved with the numbering and S.T. Dupont logo for the lighter and writing instruments.
The interior is sheathed with imperial gold shiny satin. The literature is harmonious with the colors of the packaging.
