S.T. Dupont celebrates the ancestral Japanese art of Maki-e, a traditional lacquer technique developed over more than 1,000 years ago. Using layers of urushi lacquer and finely applied precious metal powders such as gold, silver, and palladium, Maki-e transforms functional objects into works of art. Each S.T. Dupont Maki-e creation is meticulously decorated by hand in Japan by the master artisans of Wajimaya Zenni, and individually signed “Zenni,” affirming its authenticity and craftsmanship.
Within this artistic tradition, S.T. Dupont presents two distinctive expressions in its Line 2 Cling Maki-e collection, each inspired by symbolic themes rooted in Japanese culture. The Ryusui Shunju design reflects the harmonious cycle of nature, evoking flowing water and the changing seasons through a refined interplay of gold powder, mother-of-pearl, and deep black lacquer. In contrast, the Dragon motif embodies strength, prosperity, and harmony, rendered in dynamic form using gold powder and palladium, enhanced by luminous mother-of-pearl accents against a polished black lacquer background.
Both designs are crafted on the iconic Line 2 Cling lighter, distinguished by its golden finishes, a double yellow flame, and the unmistakable “Cling” sound upon opening.
