Constructed between 1163 and 1345, the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris stands as one of the greatest examples of Gothic architecture, situated in the center of Paris on the Île de la Cité.
Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, it has hosted many significant events in French history, from Napoleon’s coronation in 1804 to royal ceremonies and major religious gatherings.
For the people of France, Notre-Dame represents more than just a place of worship. It is a national symbol, bearing witness to centuries of history and reflecting the country’s cultural identity as well as its architectural brilliance. Its presence in literature and historical records further elevates Notre-Dame as an enduring emblem of French heritage.
Since 1872, S.T. Dupont has been creating refined accessories in its Faverges workshops, nestled in the French Alps. This story intertwines with that of one of the world’s most renowned cathedrals. After years of meticulous restoration, Notre-Dame de Paris will once again welcome the public in December 2024. Its gargoyles and chimeras return to their rightful place, symbolizing rebirth, resilience, and the triumph of craftsmanship. Drawing inspiration from the cathedral’s motifs and architecture, the S.T. Dupont Notre-Dame de Paris collection captures the grandeur of its forecourt, its nave, and its soaring heights. It is a celebration of creativity, tradition, and the enduring spirit of Paris.
The Notre-Dame de Paris collection represents more than objects; each piece carries an artistic spirit that reflects culture and history.
The Ligne 2 lighter rests on a vermeil base reminiscent of an altar, its vibrant shades of blue and turquoise echoing the brilliance of the cathedral’s rose window.
This iconic feature is recreated with blue chalcedony and lapis lazuli, enhancing both the sacred and artistic character of the design.
The base is decorated with motifs inspired by the cathedral’s floor tiles, adding depth and visual richness. On the reverse, a gargoyle emerges from grey-white calcite, recalling the stone guardians of Notre-Dame and showcasing S.T. Dupont’s mastery of craftsmanship.
After five years of meticulous restoration, the cathedral reopened its doors, marking a moment of historical significance.
To pay tribute to this event, the Notre-Dame de Paris collection features two exceptional creations in goldsmith craftsmanship.
The first, a lighter, rests on a bronze base treated with a patina effect and is designed to evoke the iconic façade of Notre-Dame de Paris.
Its vibrant colors recall the brilliance of the cathedral’s original rose glass windows, capturing both its architectural beauty and artistic spirit.
