In the 1930s, Yadavindra Singh, the Maharajah of Patiala—renowned for his opulent style and magnificent commissions—became one of the House’s most illustrious patrons. His taste for grandeur and refinement would forever shape the destiny of S.T. Dupont.
It was a singular request from this visionary sovereign that transformed the Maison’s path. In 1941, “Le Magnifique,” as he was fondly known, desired that his minaudières be fitted with pocket lighters—an innovation that had never before been imagined. To meet this challenge, Lucien and André Tissot Dupont conceived the very first gasoline-powered lighter, marking the birth of a new era and introducing S.T. Dupont to the world of fire.
This historic collaboration not only elevated the creative horizons of the Manufacture but also sealed its reputation for innovation, luxury, and timeless elegance.
Today, the Haute-Création Maharaja & Maharani collection pays homage to this legendary heritage. Inspired by the Maharajah’s resplendent minaudières and the regal jewels of his court, it reinterprets history through the artistry and savoir-faire of S.T. Dupont’s master craftsmen.
