UAE. Leading airline Emirates has partnered with luxury goods house Montblanc to offer customers the opportunity to bid for and win a limited-edition one-of-one timepiece from the Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec TimeWriter Collection, celebrating the 190th anniversary of the chronograph, created exclusively for Emirates.

The timepiece, which was created exclusively for Emirates, features two-tone dial design in 18-carat red gold.

Emirates passengers could take advantage of that opportunity to make a bid to own this unique timepiece with a minimum bidding price starting at US$45,000. From 1 July until 31 December 2011, customers on all Emirates flights could send in their bids by filling in the leaflet available onboard from a member of cabin crew.

The proceeds from the Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec TimeWriter Collection piece was donated to two charities – The Emirates Airline Foundation and The Smile Train.

As a part of the winning bid the winner and a companion could enjoy the opportunity to fly First Class Emirates to Geneva, where they would then stay at the renowned Montblanc Chateau, LeLocle, in the mountains of the Swiss Jura, which is also home to Montblanc Montre SA. The winner would be presented with the timepiece in Dubai.

A total of 87 bids were received for the prize. The special limited edition timepiece Montblanc created exclusively for use by Emirates for charity has been sold for $90,000.

“We are constantly seeking innovative ways to cater to the evolving tastes of our customers, and this unique Montblanc timepiece reflects our goal to provide them with an offering that is both distinctive and memorable,” said Emirates Vice President Retail Services John Sime.

He added: “It’s a really positive campaign. There’s great exposure for the brand, there’s excitement for the passengers, it’s good for us, plus two great charities are set to benefit”.
