Inspiration/Paris Opera House

The Paris Opera is the primary opera and ballet company of France. It was founded in 1669 by Louis XIV as the Académie d’Opéra, and shortly thereafter was placed under the leadership of Jean-Baptiste Lully and officially renamed the Académie Royale de Musique, but continued to be known more simply as the Opéra.

The Palais Garnier, also known as the Opéra de Parisor Opéra Garnier, but more commonly as the Paris Opéra, is a 2,200-seat opera house on the Place de l’Opérain Paris, France, which was the primary home of the Paris Opera from 1875 until 1989. A grand landmark designed by Charles Garnier in the Neo-Baroque style, it is regarded as one of the architectural masterpieces of its time.

The Palais Garnier has been called “probably the most famous opera house in the world, a symbol of Paris like Notre Dame Cathedral, the Louvre, or the Sacré Coeur Basilica”.

Fashioned from bronze, each pen & base take shape in the hands of the artist. It is chased, engraved, polished and finished with a gold coloured patina. The column engraving is inspired by the friezes that decorate the building in Paris at the end of the French 17th century. S.T. Dupont brand is engraved on the top of the pen under the dome and on the base.
