Les Montparnasse de S.T. Dupont is one of the most elegant and precious collection with its sleek design writing instruments.

Around 1989, S.T. Dupont launched one of its most successful pens, the large to extra-large Montparnasse range, which remained their flagship model until the introduction of the Olympio range. Similar to previous models, the Montparnasse came in several types of finish over its solid brass body: precious metals guillochè and Chinese lacquered.

Since the section of the writing instruments are internal, S.T. Dupont devised a specially designed swing out handle that sits on the base of the barrel and allows for the section to be unscrewed from the barrel – once again, an inspiration from their lighter range. To remove the barrel, the handle must be opened and rotated to loosen or open it, and the same when securing the barrel back to the section.

To showcase its superlative art of lacquering and to re-create a long-forgotten technique know only to true master craftsmen, S.T. Dupont established itself as a leader in lacquered pens by introducing the “Chairman” series in the early 1990’s.

The Montparnasse Chairman series consisted of “Chairman Amber”, “Chairman Grenat Red” and “Chairman Grenat Green” pens. The base models were of the Montparnasse range of Fountain, Rollerball and Ballpoint Pens in both sizes.

The “Chairman Grenat” features a guirlande pattern of guillochè, much more intricate and complex than barleycorn, covered with crimson red or ruby-coloured Chinese lacquer coat, thus creating a stunning play of light, reflection and colour.

The S.T. Dupont Montparnasse Chairman fountain pen has 18K gold nib, Cartridge/Converter filling system. The serial number of the pen is engraved on the clip.

Each pen came in a pinewood box with a “Chairman” metal plaque. The estimated number of pens produced is a few hundred pieces in each size.

The S.T. Dupont Montparnasse series went out of production by the end of 1994.
