Special Characteristic

This solitaire pen is a contemporary interpretation of the classic burgundy color introducing a new lacquering gradient technique. With the flexible nib’s varying pressure a line width can be created, from extra fine 0.3 mm (EF) to double broad 1.6 mm (BB).

Adding luxury to the theme, Montblanc – which has championed the handwritten word since its inception in 1906 – is introducing the Meisterstück Calligraphy Solitaire Burgundy, part in response to and part in encouragement of, beautiful writing.

The Meisterstück Calligraphy Solitaire Burgundy Lacquer Flexible Fountain Pen is inspired by the encounter of art and writing. Melding heritage with contemporary style, the body of the pen features a modern shaded décor, achieved by employing a new gradient lacquering technique that is applied to the brushed metal.

This seemingly newfound art form actually has its roots in the distant past. Brush calligraphy dates to Ancient China and the Shang Dynasty, eventually moving throughout Asia and Ancient Greece. In fact the word itself stems from Greek: “beauty” (kallos) and “to write” (graphein).

Meisterstück Great Masters Calligraphy Collection

Montblanc’s Meisterstück Great Masters Calligraphy Collection focuses on more flexible nibs that allow for expressive, calligraphic handwriting governed by the amount of pressure exerted on the nib. In this way, a variation in line width and character is achieved, often with stunning results.

These nibs are based on the Montblanc pens from the 1950s, and are hand-crafted from Au750 solid gold by master craftsman who take part in the 35 steps required to make each. The flexible nib is engraved with the “888” calligraphy symbol.

Now, the flexible nib is making its debut on this Meisterstück Calligraphy Solitaire Burgundy Lacquer model. And in a dramatic nod to the tradition of calligraphy in Japanese art and culture, the writing instrument is dressed in red – one of the most symbolic colors in Japanese culture.

The Meisterstück Calligraphy Solitaire Burgundy Lacquer is also available as a rollerball pen.
