MONTBLANC Bohème / Mystery Masterpiece

To celebrate their 100th birthday, Montblanc teamed up with jeweller Van Cleef & Arpels, who were also celebrating their anniversary.

Luxury pen maker Montblanc was founded in Hamburg, Germany, in 1906, the same year that jeweller Van Cleef & Arpels opened in Paris’ Place Vendôme. In December 2006, the two brands celebrated their combined two centuries of creating luxury accessories by introducing the “Mystery Masterpiece” pens.

Passionate about creating beauty, this “Mystery Masterpiece” is a testament to the passion and spirit that Montblanc and Van Cleef & Arpels have devoted to creative design for over a century.

The Limited Edition “Mystery Masterpiece” is a stunning piece and in addition to colored gems the pens are embedded with 840 diamonds and gemstones. The collaboration behind the creation of the Mystery Masterpiece required more than a year and a half of efforts by skilled artisans.

Limited Edition “Mystery Masterpiece”

The white-gold fountain pen features a heavily jeweled overlay, designed by Van Cleef & Arpels, on the cap and barrel. The jeweller applied its hallmark known as Mystery Setting, which conceals the metal prongs that hold the jewels in place, producing a tilelike gem surface. The pen’s name refers to Van Cleef & Arpels’ stone-setting technique and to Montblanc’s most popular pen – the Meisterstück, which is the German word for “masterpiece.”

Each pen displays 67 Mystery Set gems and another 189 stones that form a butterfly, a Van Cleef & Arpels signature motif. The pens are further encrusted with 773 brilliant-cut diamonds, five marquise-cut diamonds, and 58 baguette-cut diamonds, totaling approximately 11.7-carats. The cap crown displays Montblanc’s trademark dazzling white star in brilliant-cut diamonds. The piston-filled pen has an 18K gold nib that Montblanc designed specially for this collaboration.

The companies have released only 9 pieces of the “Mystery Masterpiece” Edition, available in three variations: three of them are set with rubies , three with sapphires, and other three with emeralds.

The “Mystery Masterpiece” Fountain Pens are available through Montblanc and Van Cleef & Arpels boutiques worldwide.
