The Hamburg prestigious company managed to surpass itself and with the 2.4 million euro “Monte Celio” topped their own world champion title in the price record.
Montblanc created another masterpiece, one-of-a-kind, a noble writing instrument, “Monte Celio” Fountain Pen, named after one of the seven hills of Rome.
The seven hills on which Ancient Rome is based, are located on the east bank of the Tiber River. The hills are attributed to the symbols of Rome. They are separated from each other by relatively deep but small valleys.
Along with the Aventine, the Capitoline, the Palatine, the Esquiline, the Quirinal and the Viminal, Monte Celio is one of the famous seven hills of Rome. This unique and extraordinarily luxurious Montblanc piece draws its inspiration from the symbolism of the frescoes that decorated Roman residences, along the streets of this aristocratic area of the capital of the empire in ancient times.
Inspired by the Greeks, ancient Roman artists decorated these houses with refined ceramic work that is applied with the same rigor and imagination by Montblanc’s 800 artisans, whose talent has turned this fountain pen into a true work of art.
The Caelian
In imperial times the Celio developed into an exclusive area where rich families lived in large villas with gardens. When the 17-year-old Emperor Nero came to the throne, he erected a temple on the Celio’s slopes dedicated to his predecessor, Claudius (in whose death he may have had a hand). Foundations and arches from the temple can still be seen to the west of the Via Claudia, just above the Colosseum (the main of the religious buildings was the Temple of the Divine Claudius).
Caelian Hill is unique among Rome’s seven historic hills, as its western slope is one of the few unpopulated places in Rome and is mostly notable for its peaceful atmosphere. Several ancient churches can be visited on Caelian Hill, in addition to Roman ruins and Villa Celimontana.
The Villa Celimontana (Caelian Mountain Villa), is a 16th-century villa and garden that many Romans frequent in warmer weather for its nature and tranquility. The villa grounds also serve as the site for an annual jazz festival.
On and around the slopes of the Caelian Hill are several beautiful churches, including Santo Stefano Rotondo, San Gregorio, and Santi Giovanni e Paolo, a popular wedding church.
The Baths of Caracalla are one of the highlights of the Caelian (“Chellian”) Hill, which lies south of the Colosseum.
Like the sublime Baths of Caracalla, built in the same period on the southern slopes of Monte Celio, and which owe their legendary opulence to the use of Carrara marble, granite and ceramic of all colors, this new Montblanc fountain pen is unique both for its jewels and for the technique used by the expert setters.
Limited Edition “Monte Celio”
The ateliers of the prestigious German manufacturer of pens have witnessed the great craftsmanship and extraordinary technique of its artisans, who have carefully selected, one by one, the 15.6 carats of diamonds and 5.22 carats of sapphires that have been used to bring this fine fountain pen to life.
The body of the fountain pen made of 750 white gold looks extremely modern with its classic, streamlined shape and is set all over with a total of 1,500 glittering diamonds and sparkling pink sapphires.
The procurement and selection of the dazzling gemstones, the cutting of the 53 facets of an almost 12ct. diamond of the highest purity, adorns the cap top of the luxury fountain pen, which took 8 years and required all the skill of gem-cutters and experienced goldsmiths. In addition the cap top is designed in a skeletonized frame.
The clip ends in a delicate 0.45 carat pink sapphire petal. The cone of the pen is enriched with 26 diamonds, and finally, the heart-shaped solid champagne gold nib serves as a tribute to royal art, which for centuries was part of the golden age of Ancient Rome.
