Montblanc pays tribute to Genghis Khan, the legendary Mongolia warrior-ruler, one of the most famous conquerors of history, who consolidated tribes into a unified Mongolia and established the largest contiguous empire in history.

Temujin, later Genghis Khan, Chinggis or Jenghiz, the founder and first Great Khan (Emperor) of the Mongol Empire, was born around 1162. Legend holds that he came into the world clutching a blood clot in his right hand.

He came to power by uniting many of the nomadic tribes of Northeast Asia. After being proclaimed the universal ruler of the Mongols, or Genghis Khan, he launched the Mongol invasions, which ultimately conquered most of Eurasia, reaching as far west as Poland and as far south as Egypt.

In early 1227 a horse threw Genghis Khan to the ground, causing internal injuries. He pressed on with the campaign, but his health never recovered. He died on August 18, 1227, just before the Xi Xia was crushed.

Limited Edition 88

The Limited Edition Fountain Pen alludes to the warlord with numerous details: the clip symbolises the recurve bows used by Khan’s warriors. The cap is inspired by their helmets and the PVD coated scales suggest the Mongolian armor.

The Au750 solid gold fittings of the skeleton pen recall their ornate weapons. The olive wood cone reflects their wooden arrowheads. The red cabochon ruby set on the clip is reminiscent to the blood clot, the young Genghis Khan had in the palm of his hand.

The Montblanc emblem in mother-of-pearl crowns the top of the cap. The Medium 18K gold nib is engraved with the steppe eagle, symbol of the great warrior, meaning that his soul would take the eagle’s appearance.

The Fountain Pen’s Limitation Number 88 refers to the lucky number in Asia.

Limited Edition 35

The Limited Edition Fountain Pen numbered from 1 to 35, symbolises the 35 letters of the Mongolian alphabet.

The cap and barrel skeletonised in a lamellar design are made from PVD-coated 925 sterling silver. Here again the cap is shaped like a hero’s helmet and the clip suggests the recurve bows used by Khan’s warriors. The PVD coated scales represent the Mongolian armor.

In this version the fittings are in Pt950 Solid Platinum, recalling their ornate weapons, and the ebony cone is a subtle reference to the wooden arrowheads, which likewise soared through the air over conquered lands.

The red cabochon ruby (0.015ct) is set on the clip again suggesting the blood clot. The Montblanc emblem is in mother-of-pearl and the same eagle motif, the emblem of Genghis Khan’s army is engraved on the medium 18K gold nib.

Completing the decorations, a solitary diamond (VVS 2, 0.46ct) set in the cone adds a touch of brilliance to this Limited Edition Fountain Pen.
