Montblanc pays tribute to Prince Rainier III (Rainier Louis Henri Maxence Bertrand Grimaldi) of Monaco, whose name is associated with the economic prosperity of the country. Rainier ruled the Principality of Monaco for almost 56 years, making him one of the longest ruling monarchs in European history. This luxurious and rather expensive magnificent Fountain Pen is a fitting salute to the ruler of a tiny country.
The Prince Rainier III Limited Edition 81 was exhibited in Monaco at a VIP charity event in honor of Prince Rainer III, after his death, in 2005. The event was held in 2007, just two years after the passing of Rainier, and was attended by his son Prince Albert and celebrities such as Helena Christiansen and Eva Green.
Half of the proceeds of the sale of the pen would benefit the Princess Grace Foundation, established by Princess Grace in 1964 and serves cultural and humanitarian tasks such as the continuation of the Academy of Classical Dance and of the Princess Grace Irish Library, the awarding of scholarships to young talents of the Rainier III Academy of Music and wide-ranging medical charity projects for children.
The Prince met Academy Award-winning actress Grace Kelly in 1955, during a photocall at the Palace scheduled to support her trip to the “Cannes” Film Festival. After a year-long courtship, Prince Rainier married Kelly in 1956. The union was met with mass attention from the public, and was described as the “wedding of the century” and the “world’s most anticipated wedding” by the media.
Prince Rainier III and Her Serene Highness Princess Grace of Monaco lived a fairy tale life with their three beautiful children and the reign over a country which was known as one of the premier vacation destinations in the world.
