MONTBLANC Duomo Di Milano

The Limited Edition “Duomo Di Milano” Fountain Pen is a tribute to the Duomo di Milano or the Milan Cathedral, an architectural masterwork in marble, glass and filigree stonework, with a history dating back 600 years.

The design of the Limited Edition is inspired by the most important icons and historic Cathedral in Milan.

The transparent skeleton body made of 18K gold, recalls the marble facades of the monument, with its spires, columns and arches. Engraved motifs are inspired by the decorations of the beautiful stained glass windows of the Cathedral. The “biscione” (“snake”) – icon of the House of Visconti and Milan symbol – is engraved on the internal piston mechanism. The bottom of the fountain pen resembles the design of the floor of the sixteenth-century “Duomo”.

“La Madonnina” – the statue atop Milan cathedral, that towers over the city of Milan – is symbolized by three yellow gold stars applied on the ring clip under the Montblanc star of mother of pearl. The clip is embellished with a blue sapphire, recalling the bishop’s ring belonged to St. Charles Borromeo, Archbishop of Milan in the fourteenth century.

The Medium 18K two-toned gold nib is engraved with the motifs reflecting the cathedral’s history, and is inscribed with the initials “AUF” – “Ad Usum Fabricae” – used by the “Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo” to mark the marble blocks selected for the construction.

The magic number 1386 on the barrel, and the limitation number 86 signify the beginning of the construction “Duomo di Milano” – the year of laying the first stone of the Cathedral .
