Montblanc has the great honour of dedicating an exceptional edition of writing instruments to this great Catalonian artist: The Limited Edition Homage à Joan Miró 76, limited to 76 pens worldwide to commemorate the inaugural opening of the Fundacio (Foundation) Joan Miró in Barcelona, in 1976.
Joan Miró born in Barcelona, Catalonia in 1893, was an artist by nature. In 1912, this son of a goldsmith took up art studies at the Galí Academy in Barcelona and in 1920 made his first journey, which would later become the hub of his life. It was here that he became acquainted with influential artists and poets like Picasso, Ernest Hemingway and Henry Miller, where he launched his first private exhibitions and where he was introduced into the surrealist circles that had grown around André Breton and Paul Éluard.
Montblanc Artisan Edition
Inspired by the sidereal and dream worlds of the work that definitively consecrated it, “Las Constelaciones” made between 1940 and 1941 and which is made up of a total of 23 works.
With its unique design and surrealistic vibe, the Limited Edition Hommage à Joan Miró 76 was inspired by the dream worlds of the Catalonian maestro. The deep-blue sapphire lacquer of the body is encircled with rings of solid yellow gold – in reverence to the abstract play of shapes in Miró’s famous “Constellations” sequence. The rings are set with diamonds, sapphires, rubies and emeralds. The frequently recurring ladder theme found in many of his works is interpreted here as an expertly modelled clip on the cap, the top of which is crowned with a mother-of-pearl Montblanc star. The delicate engravings of Miró’s signature and a star, a cosmic element of his “Constellations” paintings, adorn the 18K gold nib of this exquisite edition, dedicated to one of the greatest artists of the 20th century.
