Montblanc Limited Artisan Edition – One of the rarest Pen – Ludwig van Beethoven: “The 9. Symphony”.
Montblanc pays tribute to one of the greatest works of Ludwig van Beethoven – the 9th Symphony. The symphony No. 9 in “D minor” is Beethoven’s final complete symphony. It was the first time a major composer used voices in a symphony. The words are from the “Ode to Joy” poem written by Friedrich Schiller. In the last movement of the symphony the words are sung by four solo vocalist and chorus.
The premiere of Symphony No. 9 was held on May 7, 1824 in the “Karntnertortheater” in Vienna. This was the first on-stage appearance Beethoven made in twelve years. It is said that there were five standing ovations during the symphony and jubilant applause at the end of many sections. At the end of the Symphony there were handkerchiefs, hats, and raised hands in the air. Although Beethoven was almost completely deaf he could still see the standing ovation and gestures.
This Limited Edition was brought onto the market especially for the ceremony and concert on the occasion of the inclusion of the original manuscript of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony in the UNESCO World Heritage List. For this event, 9 special personalities personally signed the service guides of the Beethoven Edition (Helmut Jahn, Friede Springer, Tasha de Vasconcelos, HRH Prince Georg Friedrich von Prussia, Sandra Maischberger, Esther Schweins, Elvira Bach, Armin Müller-Stahl, Volker Schlondorff).
One of these fountain pens was auctioned after the concert at a reception given by Montblanc for 500 guests as an honor for the benefit of the Berlin State Library.
The cap of the Limited Edition Pen is made of real onyx and features a solid gold portrait of Beethoven set with black and white diamonds. The barrel is created in solid gold while the musical clefs are inlaid with lacquer and set with diamonds (approx. 0.18-carats in total). The clip and rings are also solid gold. The masterpiece is completed with 18K gold nib engraved with a treble clef.
Montblanc created 3 series of a masterpiece that celebrates Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, which is said by some people, to be the greatest piece of music ever written.
The Yellow Gold and White Gold Diamonds Editions have the clefs inlaid with diamonds, whilst the White Gold and Sapphires Edition have sapphires instead of the diamonds.
