S.T. DUPONT Olympio LeRoy Neiman “Golf”

In 2003, the S.T. Dupont wanted to celebrate Leroy Neiman who was described as the most popular living painter in America.

Best known for his brilliantly coloured, stunningly energetic images of sporting events and leisure activities, LeRoy Neiman was probably the most popular living artist in the United States before his passing in June 2012.

While strikingly original, his work reflects the varied influences of Lautrec, Dufy, the New York Social Realists and the Abstract Impressionists. Best known as a portrayer of sporting and social events, he virtually invented the modern genre of sports art and remains its’ most accomplished and acclaimed practitioner.

For S.T. Dupont Neiman drew about a dozen sketches of a golfer swinging a club. The most powerful sketch was selected and combined with Neiman’s signature and three rings of Chinese lacquer in graduated shades of green to complete the edition.

LeRoy Neiman Golf Limited Edition consists of: Fountain Pen/481003, Rollerball/482003, Ligne 2 Lighter and 5-piece Set collection, which contains a Ligne 2 Lighter, a Gatsby Lighter, a Fountain Pen (medium nib), a Rollerball and a Jeroboam Table Lighter, that is only available in the 5-piece set.

This particular piece from Dupont focuses on the theme of golf, the game Mr. Neiman was very fond of.

Each item is carefully crafted in polished palladium and Chinese lacquer, with three different shades of green, symbolising the colours of the tee, the fairway and the green. The famous Neiman “golfers swing” can be found engraved into each piece in the collection, along with a signature by LeRoy Neiman (in green).

The Lighter is also characterized by extremely clean lines and finished with three shades of green Chinese lacquer.

The LeRoy Neiman Edition was released in 2002 and was only available in France and the USA, each of them limited to 400 pieces.
