With every Great Characters Edition, debuted in 2009, Montblanc commemorates individuals who have broken new ground in the fields of culture, politics, science or the arts, and the impact of the legacy they have left behind.
As a tribute to Abraham Lincoln and following the release of Steven Spielberg’s beautiful film, the Montblanc house released, on February 18, on Presidents’ Day in the United States, a writing instrument by exception.
Abraham Lincoln was an American lawyer and statesman who served as the 16th President of the United States from 1861 until his assassination in 1865. Lincoln led the nation through the “American Civil war” and succeeded in preserving the “Union”, abolishing slavery, bolstering the federal government and modernizing the U.S. economy.
This Fountain Pen is a Limited Edition of 50 pieces, as a reference to the 50 states.
The 36 columns and 36 names engraved on the body and the cap in precious lacquer, represent the 36 states that formed the Confederacy at the time of Lincoln’s assassination (committed by a Southern partisan after the end of the Civil War).
The portrait of Abraham Lincoln is depicted on the gold clip adorned with a sapphire crystal. The nib engraved with the phrase “America’s Signature for Freedom” is surrounded by stars, symbolising the American States. The engravings on the gold finishes refer to these different mandates.
In addition, 3D patterns are added to all this, referring to the structure of the statue of Gustave Eiffel. Around the Montblanc emblem in mother-of-pearl, the cap features the signature and government terms of the 16th president, President Lincoln (1861-1865). The three diamonds are set on the cap top.
