MONTBLANC High Artistry / Heritage Egyptomania

Heritage Egiptomania Limited Edition

Turning writing instruments into works of art, the new Montblanc Heritage Egyptomania – A Revival of Ancient Egyptian Treasures brings to life the glory of Ancient Egypt.

The sarcophagus of King Tutankhamun, one of the most important discoveries from ancient Egypt to this day, is a marvel of craftsmanship and beauty. The overall shape of the writing instrument is reminiscent of a sarcophagus and features the distinctive octagonal shape of the new Montblanc Heritage Egyptomania Edition.

Since early times, ancient Egypt has been a source of fascination, with waves of “Egyptomania” notably influencing literature, architecture, art, jewelry and more throughout the world. One such wave was in the 1920s, coinciding with the discovery of the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun in 1922.

Esteemed luxury brands, like Cartier, Montblanc and others introduced Egypt-inspired products during that time. And now Montblanc is revisiting Egypt once more in this Heritage High Artistry Collection.

There are five different precious writing instruments in the High Artistry Heritage Egiptomania Limited Collection, and each is an opportunity for Montblanc to remind us of its expertise in a variety of well-practiced artisanal skills: Stone cutting and setting, hand engraving, lacquering, metal sculpturing and more elevate each pen variation. In keeping with the Egyptian theme, each High Artistry writing instrument is encased in a “sarcophagus” like a treasure, with a distinctive octagonal shape, and to add further intrigue, a special mechanism is employed to open and close the decorative receptacle, revealing the pen inside.

Limited Edition 1 Treasure

As its name suggests, the Limited Edition 1 Treasure is a one-of-a-kind piece inspired by the treasures of the sarcophagi of the kings and queens of Egypt. Its palette is a rich blue, with sapphires, lapis lazuli and Egyptian turquoise, as well as a blue lotus flower, reminiscent of the lotus found in the tomb of Tutankhamun, employed to create the gorgeous display. Historians called it the “Sacred Lily of the Nile” and say that it was often used as a common decoration in ancient Egypt.

The cap and barrel of the sarcophagus is white gold, while the cap crown is set with a 5.13-carat brilliant-cut diamond. A detachable scarab serves as the opening mechanism, crafted from turquoise and red carnelian. A Heritage-size fountain pen in solid white gold and set with sapphires is inside, its blue striped pattern recalling Tutankhamun’s death mask. The fountain pen’s 18K white gold nib features a hand engraving of the golden mask of Tutankhamun; it is set with a diamond.

Limited Edition 1 Pharaoh

A celebration of the opulence and artistry of the sarcophagi of the kings and queens of Ancient Egypt, the colourful Limited Edition 1 Pharaoh inspired by the magnificent materials used in ancient Egyptian art and objects.

Also one of a kind, pairs yellow gold with baguette-cut sapphires and hand-engraved hieroglyphics. A detachable scarab once again serves as the opening mechanism for the sarcophagus, and it is fashioned using turquoise, carnelian and lapis lazuli. The cap crown is set with a 8.72-carat royal blue Madagascar sapphire in a special falcon setting. The barrel of the 18-karat gold pen inside is inspired by the headpiece on Tutankhamun’s death mask, while the cone of the writing instrument, also in 18-karat yellow gold, is set with turquoise. The 18K nib features an engraving of the Goddess Maat, set with a sapphire.

Limited Edition 5

Comprising five pieces, the Limited Edition 5 pays homage to the stone setting and gold work evident in Ancient Egypt. The cap and barrel of the sarcophagus are yellow gold, and the cap crown is set with a brilliant-cut diamond, about 1.85 carat. The fountain pen inside is 18-karat yellow gold decorated with blue lacquer, and its 18K gold nib is engraved with a crook and flail and set with a sapphire.

Limited Edition 10

The Limited Edition 10 in yellow gold, commemorates the richly decorated gold exterior of Tutankhamun’s sarcophagus and includes intricate depictions, reminiscent of objects found in his tomb, including the king’s gold hunting knife sheath. The hieroglyphics featured are taken from the “Book of the Dead” by Hunefer, which provides insight into the “trials” that needed to be completed in order for an individual to reach the afterlife during the “Judgment Scene”. The 18-karat gold fountain pen features an 18K nib, also engraved with a crook and flail and set with a diamond.
