Egyptomania Special Edition
With every one of its Heritage Editions, Montblanc resurfaces historic editions from the Maison’s rich past and reimagines them for today’s writing culture enthusiasts with new designs and technical innovations. One such writing instrument is the so-called Montblanc “Egyptian Pen” from the 1920s.
The new Montblanc Heritage Egyptomania collection reawakens the spirit of exploration. From Roman emperors to modern-day travellers, ancient Egypt has captivated the imagination for millennia. Seduced by the allure and mystery of the land of the pharaohs, early 20th century explorers set out on expeditions to uncover secret treasures. The discovery of King Tutankhamun’s tomb and the mysteries inside it created one of the biggest cultural events of the 20th century. A new era of Egyptomania has dawned influencing every part of the arts and intellectual life – from the Art Deco movement through films and literature to unique writing instruments.
Like one of the many breath-taking discoveries unearthed by the great archaeologists on expeditions down the Nile, the Montblanc Heritage Egyptomania collection brings back one of its own iconic treasures from the past. The so-called Montblanc “Egyptian Pens” from the 1920s, featuring an elegant octagonal shape and Egyptian style engravings, is reimagined for today’s writing culture enthusiasts, combining vintage flair and the spirit of exploration.
Special Edition (Black Resin)
The cap of this version is embellished with a set of authentic hieroglyphics that translate into the word “Montblanc”. Created in partnership with an expert in Egyptology, the symbols mean “white stone mountain”, effectively describing “Montblanc”. The unique clip features a sculpted scarab beetle at the tip.
The fountain pen uses a piston filling mechanism and the 14K gold nib features an embossed scarab – a sacred ancient Egyptian beetle – and a triangular heart-hole that offers a softer writing style, reminiscent of historical Montblanc fountain pens.
The octagonal writing instruments are offered in the Heritage series in precious black resin with vintage gold-coated fittings. The Edition consists of:
a Fountain Pen/125492, a Rollerball/125493 and a Ballpoint Pen/125494

The 14K gold nib on the fountain pen features an embossed scarab – a sacred ancient Egyptian beetle – and a triangular heart-hole that offers a softer writing style, reminiscent of historical Montblanc fountain pens.

Newspapers and magazines such as Vogue featured Egyptian fashions and interior designs as well as fabrics and embroideries. This was also a fertile time for jewelers, who produced many stunning pieces in the ’20s and ’30s, some of which comprised ancient Egyptian artifacts in their compositions.
Cartier, for example, designed and produced Egyptian-style jewelry beginning around 1910 (probably inspired by the exhibition at the Louvre in 1911). The brooches, earrings, pendants, and more were the result of some serious research on the part of Cartier, who was dedicated to the authenticity of each design.
After 1922, Cartier began to incorporate antiquities into its Egyptian-style pieces, and this second stage of designs continued into the mid-to-late 1920s at the behest of Louis Cartier, who was a collector of Egyptian art. Some Egyptian Revival pieces were produced by Cartier into the 1930s.
