Journey Among Dragons
The Montblanc Signs and Symbols, released annually since 2015, comprises two distinct lines: The Legend of Zodiacs and A Journey Among Dragons. The first one celebrates the zodiac sign of the year and the second one pays homage to mythical creatures and their powers. Both draw attention to Montblanc’s exquisite artistry in pen making, and each is a talisman in its own way.
Presenting the items from the Signs and Symbols collection, Montblanc turns for inspiration to myths and legends which have been remaining significant in the culture of the East and the whole world to this day.
The dragon has a deep cultural significance in East Asian life, and the white dragon in particular is among those honored as the dragon of spirit and purity. A water creature, it prefers moving water with a sand or gravel bed, and because water always finds balance, white dragons are, among other things, symbols of justice.
Myths and legends depict the East Asian dragon in a multitude of figures illustrating its numerous traits and great powers. The mystical dragon god carries the attributes of different animals: the head of a camel, the eyes of a demon, the horns of a stag, the ears of a cow, the neck of a snake, tiger feet, eagle talons and the scaly body of a fish.
Over the centuries, a few of these dragons have become crystallized in Asian culture. Given its standing not only as one of the 12 zodiac symbols of the East Asian calendar, but also as one of the four direction or miracle animals – the dragon has a substantial influence on everyday occurrences in East Asian life.
