“One Thousand and One Nights” is a collection of Middle Eastern folk tales compiled in Arabic during the Islamic Golden age. It is often known in English as the Arabian Nights. The 1001 Nights pays tribute to the dreamlike kingdoms in the stories of the Thousand and One Nights. Dating back more than a thousand years, the tales of the Thousand and One Nights draws on the mythology and culture of many ancient civilizations. This is the first written rendition of traditional Indo-Persian tales which had been handed down purely by word of mouth.
Helping to develop the image of an imaginary and captivating East, this emblematic collection of Eastern literature contains stories of genies, fairies and other fantastic characters, related by the beautiful Sheherazade to the Sultan Shahriar, postponing the hour of her execution with every passing night. Elements of fantasy have a significant place in the tales, with frequent references to magical objects such as Aladdin’s lamp and the flying carpet.

The Limited Edition 1001 Nights enchants with Middle Eastern mystique. An expression of dreams and magic, it is ornamented with decorative elements inspired by Persian architecture and culture. Exceptional planting and lacquering craftmanship closely links the house of S. T. Dupont with Persian art seen in an iconography rich in color and ornamentation. A symbol of infinity, of the divine and the spiritual, the midnight blue lacquer coloring is evocative of a deep serene sky. The gold powder intensifies this dreamlike, tranquil quality, giving the illusion of a celestial vault crowned with stars. The gilded inserts illustrate oriental decoration to perfection. The writing instrument is enriched with several smooth layers of deep blue lacquer and is ornamented with placed blue lacquer and intricately engraved pale gold. The golden articulated clip’s design is inspired by helmets of the Persian army, and highlights 8 hand-set semi-precious citrine gemstones. An engraved “D” appears on the cap top while an engraved medallion is featured prominently on the bottom barrel and on the nib of the fountain pen. Gold powder dusts the lacquer, intensifying the deepness and clarity of the blue color, creating the illusion of a celestial vault crowned with stars.
Ligne 2 lighter is finished in midnight blue authentic Chinese lacquer and gold powder, giving the illusion of a celestial sky crowned with stars. The body of the lighter is decorated with a gilded high relief motif that evokes the luxurious adornments of the architecture of the Persian golden age. The sides of the lighter are engraved with a fine guilloche, as well as the top of the lid, which is engraved also with S.T. Dupont signature. 8 hand-set yellow citrine gemstones give the final touch to this “One Thousand & One Nights” Limited Edition lighter.
The set includes a pale gold silkscreened bottle of S.T. Dupont ink, a lacquered wood pen holder with soft fabric-topped golden pen supports, and a gold sword paper cutter with engraved handle featured placed blue lacquer, which may also be displayed with the pen. It is also limited to one thousand and one sets, as further reference to the books, the collection is named after.
