MONTBLANC Patron of Art / Queen Elizabeth I

Elizabeth I built up 16th century England into a world power and created the foundation for a historic age of culture. Montblanc honours surely the most famous female monarch of Great Britain with an edition consisting of two fountain pens of the very finest quality: the “Limited Edition Patron of Art Elizabeth I” is limited to 4810 fountain pens and in an even finer edition limited to 888 writing instruments.

Queen Elizabeth I was one of few historical figures whose impact on history was so powerful that an entire era has been named after them – and she did it with a passion and charisma that still enthralls us today.

Elizabeth I ascended to the throne of England and Ireland in 1559, and over the next 44 years made her kingdom not just into a world power that ruled the seven seas, but also into Europe’s leading cultural nation of early modern times.

Today this golden age of British history is still known as the Elizabethan Era – a time when the English renaissance flourished, producing masters such as William Shakespeare and John Dowland and opening up Britain’s path into the present day. Her life has been filmed many times, the most recent version starring Cate Blanchett.

Limited Edition 4810

The brilliant lacquer of both writing instruments is modelled on the royal garments of Elizabeth I. With the Tudor rose and the cross of the British Crown, the royal insignia put their stamp on the cap, which is crowned with a green cabochon on the clip. In addition the words “Video et taceo” engraved on the cap ring recall the supreme principle of Elizabeth I’s government.

At the same time there are also traces of Elizabeth I’s childhood days to be found: the fine engravings on the gold-plated fittings recall the artistic embroidery of the book “The Glass of the Sinful Soul” – the book that Elizabeth I designed herself at the age of eleven. This extraordinary edition is completed with the ivory-coloured Montblanc emblem on the cap head and the royal crown engraved on the 18K gold nib.

Limited Edition 888

The red-lacquer cap and barrel, each made of pure rose gold, are decorated with a filigree design adapted from the embroidered binding of the queen’s girlhood prayer book. A relief of a Tudor rose atop the cap symbolizes the royal lineage, and an engraved drawing of Elizabeth I’s crown adorns the 18K solid gold nib. The royal insignia put their stamp on the cap, which is crowned with a green cabochon on the clip. In addition the words “Video et taceo” engraved on the cap ring recall the supreme principle of Elizabeth I’s government.
