Since 1992 Montblanc honours great writers whose works have become part of world literature with the Montblanc Limited Writers Edition. The stories these writers created still fascinate millions of people and indeed the lives of their authors were often just as multifaceted and as rich as their novels. The Montblanc Writers Edition 2018 is dedicated to Homerus.

Homer is believed to have lived between the 8th century and 10th century and is perhaps the greatest of all epic poets of ancient Greece. His works are considered to be the foundations of Western literature and poetry.

Homerus (Homerus) is the name ascribed by ancient Greeks to the elgendary author of the Iliad and the Odyssey, two epic poems that are the central works of ancient Greek literature. Homer’s work mark a unique period in Western history, when the old oral tradition gave way to new written tradition. The Greeks had mastered the written word by about 800 BC.

The Iliad is set during the Trojan War, the ten-year siege of the city of Troy by coalition of Greek kingdoms. It focuses on a quarrel between King Agamemnon and the warrior Achilles lasting a few weeks during the last year of the war. Homer Limited Edition

The Montblanc Homer Writers Edition takes its main inspiration from the story of the Trojan horse and wrath of Achilles, related in the Iliad. The fountain pen size is comparable to the mythical “149”. The overall design is inspired by the Trojan horse, with the back and clip reflecting the spear of Achilles. The engraving of the cone and rings borrows motifs from traditional greek black-figured pottery, with the overall colour of the writing instrument taking inspiration from the same black Greek pottery. The 18K solid gold nib, with special engraving, is available in M or F widths.

Homer Iliad Limited Edition 1581 Fountain Pen

This Writer’s Edition takes its main inspiration from the story of the Trojan Horse. The overall shape is inspired by the horse, with the back and the clip reflecting the spear. The engraving on the cone and rings borrows motifs from traditional Greek black-figured pottery. The coral color of the barrel also takes inspiration from pottery, while the engraved pattern on the cap is inspired by the armor of Achilles – the central figure of the Iliad.

The Trojan Horse, Odysseus’ famous stratagem, is reflected in the edition’s remarkable silhouette and engravings. A stylized Montblanc Au750 champagne-tone gold coated head of a horse is set on the 149 sized nib. The finely engraved Greek meander frieze on the Au750 champagne-tone gold coated fittings of the Writers Edition Homage to Iliad 1581 is inspired by the six-foot structure of the hexameter. The edition is crowned by the Montblanc emblem in mother-of-pearl. This edition is limited to 1581 pieces worldwide in honour to the first translation of ten books of the Iliad into english language in 1581.
