Limited Edition / Writers Edition
The body of this luxurious writing instrument with its octagonal design is inspired by the Globe Theatre in London. The cap is octagonal too – reminiscent of the theater’s eight-sided interior configuration and finishes in a cap top shaped like the ringed roof of the theatre. In the center the deeply set white Montblanc emblem crowns this Edition. The clip ring recalls the golden earring Shakespeare wore in the most famous portrait of him – “the Chandos portrait”. The white resin barrel of the pen is engraved with a feather – like pattern that represents the quill – Shakespeare used to pen his works. These facets are in turn separated by a gold ring with embossed symbols reminiscent of Shakespeare’s career. The wide golden ring just below is embossed with symbols of seven of his most famous plays. A rose and dagger stand for Romeo and Juliet, a skull for Hamlet, two chess pieces for King Lear, a crest for Henry V, a Moorish-inspired pattern including a sword for Othello, a crown for Macbeth, a swirling cloud for The Tempest and a laurel wreath in the form of a “C” for Julius Caesar.
The black cap and white barrel coloration is a reference to the flags that flew above the famous Globe Theatre signifying the genre of the play being performed: white for comedy and black for tragedy.
Limited Edition 1597
The treasure trove of Shakespeare’s work is honoured in the many details of the William Shakespeare Limited Edition 1597.
The pen is designed to resemble the Quill pen which Shakespeare used to write his great plays and poetry. The multi-coloured barrel is created with exquisite black, red and blue guilloche patterns overlayed with precious lacquer, while the cap is pure black lacquer with gold accents. The sumptuary colours of red and blue, is bisected by a further gold band. The octagonal shape of the pen recalls the Globe Theatre in London – The William Shakespeare Theatre. The gold clip represents the gold earring that Shakespeare wore in one of his most famous portraits, the Chandos portrait. Tudor rose carved on the top of the cone honors Queen Elizabeth I, Shakespeare’s most valuable patron. The handcrafted Au750 solid gold nib features an engraving representing “Romeo and Juliet”. The ring has engravings featuring the elements of four of Shakespeare’s famous plays: “Romeo and Juliet”, “Hamlet”, “Henry V” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”.
