MONTBLANC Patron of Art / Marquise de Pompadour

The Marquise de Pompadour – the charming mistress of King Louis XV – was not only one of the most characteristic figures at the court of Versailles, but also a passionate and committed art love. The “rococo muse” supported, among others, promising writers such as Voltaire and musicians such as the young Mozart. She also played a crucial role in founding the French porcelain factory in Sevres, and gave creating suggestions for the design of many famous building projects in Paris, such as the Place de la Concorde.

The Patron of Art Edition Marquise de Pompadour honours a captivating personality and an outstanding historical figure. The splendid gold-plated barrel and fittings of Edition 4810 represent the luxury of court life at Versailles. The cap, made of fine Meissen porcelain and decorated with a hand-painted, sepia-coloured rose finished in gold, recalls the Marquise’s love of porcelain. As a tribute to the age in which she loved, the 18-carat gold nib is decorated by a delicate engraving typical of the rococo style. Edition 888 pays a special tribute to Marquise de Pompadour: both the cap of this fine pen – which is lovingly decorated with a hand-painted motif of the Marquise – and the barrel, which is also hand-painted with a delicate pattern of flowers, are made of Meissen porcelain. All fittings in this Limited Edition are of 750 solid gold.
